CTSP – The Professional Security Register

The CTSP Register was formed as a means of recognising the competency of Technical Security Professionals fulfilling roles in the security and fire systems sectors.  This includes Engineers/Technicians (Installation, Maintenance and Commissioning), System Designers, Auditors and Consultants.  It allows consumers, employers and contractors to search the register to validate professional competence.
In this blog post, we’ve put together a series of common Q&A’s to try and help potential members better understand what CTSP is and how it can benefit you.

What is CTSP?
Great question. Within the security systems industry, there is an increasing expectation of raising standards. CTSP is a professional register that recognises competence, quality and qualifications (both vocational and academic) in the Technical Security Industry.

Who is CTSP for?
CTSP is for all individuals operating within the Security Systems Industry with a ‘technical’ focus. i.e. Installers, technicians, engineers, system designers, auditors & consultants.

Do I need qualifications to join?
In order to maintain the quality and integrity of CTSP, there are application criteria that all professionals will need to meet. Our registration manager will review all qualifications submitted and cross-reference with the relevant awarding body to assess if they meet current requirements.
A comprehensive list covering all technical areas can be found here.

I haven’t got any qualifications, but I have been working in the industry installing security systems for years – can I still apply to become a CTSP member?
Yes! You can still apply to become a CTSP Registrant via our ‘Vocational Pathway’. You will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your competence. The criteria for application via this route can be accessed here: VOCATIONAL PATHWAY

How much does it cost?

  • The application fee costs £25 (inc VAT). This is non-refundable. Once your application has been approved, the registration fee is £50 (inc VAT).
  • The annual renewal fee is £50 (inc VAT) if your application is successful.
  • We accept Direct Debit, Credit Card and Paypal

What are the benefits of becoming a CTSP member?
Lots! Below are just a few examples of some of the benefits of becoming a CTSP member:

So, I’ve registered and received my membership, now what?
Amazing! You are now on a national register that is recognised by some of the UK’s biggest accreditation bodies. But now what?
Keep on progressing. To maintain the integrity of CTSP, all members are required to complete 20 points of Continuous Professional Development in 12 months. This can be done in a number of ways, for example:

  • Active learning: courses, either classroom-based, blended or online
  • Self-Directed: exhibitions, seminars, articles, lectures, webinars, product training.

All Continuous Professional Development is recorded directly in the online CPD record form, or alternatively, a 3rd party CPD record form upload.

How do I join?
All applications can be made here: https://www.ctsp.org.uk/ and begin the process of becoming a member of the Certified Professional Network.

How long will the registration process take?
Depending on all the correct evidence submitted to the registration manager, we expect most applications will take no longer than 20 working days to process.
