Local Area Networks bitesize bundle – Part 2

Course Overview

Following on from LAN bundle 1, this bundle explores Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), why they’re needed, how they are set up and used, and how Quality of Service over Ethernet became a reality. We explain how the Domain Name Service (DNS) swaps web and email addresses into the correct IP addresses and also the principles behind providing Quality of Service. You’ll learn about delay, jitter and loss, presented in an easily digestible and jargon-free manner.

Lastly, we examine the development of the router; from a simple packet switch to the highly intelligent device we have today and the fundamentals of a routing protocol, queuing and priority, and autonomous systems.
